My Bio & CV




Dr.
Peter Stephenson is a writer, researcher and lecturer on information assurance and risk, information warfare and counter-terrorism, and digital investigation and forensics on large-scale computer networks.  He has lectured extensively on digital investigation and security, and has written, edited or contributed to 16 books and several hundred articles in major national and international trade, technical and scientific publications.  

 

He teaches information assurance, cyber warfare, digital forensics, and cyber investigation. He is the Chief Information Security Officer for the University and the Director of the Norwich University Advanced Computing Center. Dr. Stephenson has been named a Distinguished Faculty Member in the School of Graduate Studies and Continuing Education.

 

He has lectured or delivered consulting engagements for the past 35 years in eleven countries plus the United States and has been a technologist for over forty years. He operated a successful consulting practice for over 20 years and has worked for such companies as Siemens, Tektronix and QinetiQ (UK). Dr. Stephenson began his information assurance career in 1964 as a crypto tech in the US Navy.

 

Dr. Stephenson obtained his PhD in computing at Oxford Brookes University, Oxford, England where his research was in the structured investigation of digital incidents in complex computing environments. He holds a Master of Arts degree (cum laude) in diplomacy with a concentration in terrorism from Norwich University.

 

He is on the editorial advisory board of the Norwich University Journal of Information Assurance among several others. Dr. Stephenson is technology editor for SC Magazine and the editor-in-chief for Norwich University Press. He is a pro bono information assurance advisor for Combined Endeavor (the world’s largest international joint interoperability exercise including over 40 countries) and the state of Vermont. He serves as a foundational member of the DC3 Academic Cyber Curriculum Alliance, an initiative of the Futures Exploration Directorate of the Department of Defense Cyber Crime Center.

 

Dr. Stephenson is a CISSP, CISM, a Fellow of the Institute for Communications, Arbitration and Forensics in the UK, an Associate Member of the American Academy of Forensic Science, a Special Member of the Vidocq Society, and is a member of Vermont InfraGard. His research interests are cyber crime assessment, theoretical digital forensics, and computer network attack and defense.
